Looking like wealth

As much as I love luxury fabrics and labels, if I have not been saving up for something for a long time, I really only justify purchasing them if I can get a deal. That is truly where vintage shopping has been my saving grace. I can't tell you how many of my favorite luxurious pieces in my closet have been purchased for a fraction of the price through shopping at consignment stores, secondhand boutiques and my tried and true favorite, the Salvation Army.

I bought this oxblood (there's that color name I hate again) leather coat recently from the SA and I paid a grand total of $30 for it. As far as SA prices go, it's expensive, but it was way too good to pass up. It's a beautiful 100 percent genuine leather piece from the 1980s and it is in absolutely pristine condition. When I bought it, it smelled heavily of mothballs and old perfume, so I took it to a leather cleaner, which actually cost more than the purchase price itself. But when I picked it up, it was good as new, with a perfect lining, and no wear and tear on the exterior.

It has beautiful hugely exaggerated shoulders and it is one of those swing coats that doesn't have any closures. So I put it with a simple black leather belt and was warm and stylish all day. I can just imagine the woman who purchased the coat probably spent hundreds of dollars on it and now this beautiful piece is a great addition to my closet.

I'm really so happy with it and feel like it's a great way to add some individuality to my clothes. I can't rave about vintage and secondhand shopping enough. It is the way to go to build your own style and score gems for your closet that few others will have.
