Sophisticated Lady

As much as I love a sexy, trendy look, I've always been inspired by conservative, ladylike fashion. One of the most amazing fashionistas Americans have right now is our beautiful first lady Michelle Obama, who always manages to add a little uptown flare to her otherwise downtown style. Other fashionistas who do an amazing job with the sophisticated look are Kate Middleton, Anna Wintour and the late Princess Diana. I admire these women for how they make fashion their own and can still look sexy and fabulous, even if they don't feel like showing a lot of skin.

I was in one of those moods recently and felt I wanted to really go for a fabulously chic look for an outing that required me to be a bit covered up. The weather even allowed for it perfectly with cooler temperatures (although I was still hot and ended up taking my jacket off).

This H&M jacket is an amazingly well-constructed peplum wool blazer in a wine/maroon color, which is huge for fall. It zips in the front and gives a really exaggerated shape, making your waist appear smaller even without a belt. (And no, it's not from the + line. We already know my thoughts on that hot, sizzling mess).

I paired it with my favorite versatile black dress from Elie Tahari and topped it off with my favorite statement necklace, which I've had in my closet forever.

I finished the look with my Forever 21 patent platform pumps and I felt like every bit the first lady of my own universe.

I am so excited for fall and this look solidified it. I can't believe it's almost September and that this Friday is my birthday. Woah! It's almost time for Fashion Week!!

On a final note, I wanted to say thank you to every single one of you who offered support for me when one of the many internet critics I have said something to me. To be honest with you, I don't usually respond to comments like that and I get them a lot. I meant when I said I would pray for her, because I genuinely feel like people say mean things when they are only in a dark place themselves. So let's all send her good vibes.

I nearly broke down at the outpouring of support I received though. I really truly honestly feel humbled by the messages and notes so many of you sent me. I love anyone who reads my blog, but to get feedback like that from so many women made it so much more special. Thank you for that and thank you for supporting each other. Sisterhood now, always and forever.
