A vintage midi skirt for a curvy lady

I never knew how much I loved pink shoes until I started blogging.

For some time now, I’ve been on the hunt for a midi skirt that is flattering on me. While I swear by midi dresses, due to my shape, I find that the way that skirts and separates fit on me sometimes isn’t ideal. I have a much smaller waist in comparison to my hips. And while my boyfriend (hi babe!) may appreciate that, it can be very challenging to dress. In addition, I carry most of my height in my legs and I tend to be short waisted, which can make things look very urkel instead of chic. No bueno.

That damn lamp kept trying to sneak in the pic!
I found this skirt buried in a heap at the Salvation Army. I fell in love with the colors and the vintage look. When I put it on, I knew I had to break up the colors in the shirt and skirt, so I added some dimension with a brown leather belt. The skirt is actually a little small on me in the waist, but I just moved the button over to solve that. And because I generally hate pockets on skirts and dresses , I sewed the pockets it has down. It came together much better that way and was able to lay flat.

The outfit itself is a little librarian, which I can appreciate , but wasn't quite what I was going for, so I added the chains from Ashley Stewart. I also opted to wear a choker necklace (which, btw, I wore to my senior prom) as a crown of sorts. Because really, who doesn’t want to be the queen of her life?

Skirt: Thrifted
Top & Blazer: H&M
Necklace: Ashley Stewart
Headpiece: Claires, circa 2000
