Disco Fever: My love affair with gold continues ...

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era because I am admittedly a little obsessed with disco fashion.  From the overuse of lame, lycra, gold, sequins to the exaggerated construction of garments, I really love it all.

So when I saw this gold pleated shirt with bell sleeves from the Jennifer Lopez collection for Kohls, I was instantly in love.  Gold has been big on the runways recently, but it’s definitely pretty tricky to wear, especially when it’s not in an accent like shoes or accessories, but an actual piece of clothing. This shirt was no different.

I felt it my duty to use the 70s effects on my Instagram with this look.
First, the shirt is a strange fit – it runs pretty large and the belt it comes with doesn’t do much in terms of figure flattery. Then of course, there is the challenge of wearing a shiny GOLD material across the bust. Talk about drawing attention.

But, when I switched out the belt for a skinny black one and bloused it just a bit over the cinched waist , it wasn’t too tight across the bust and came across much better.  I used the belt it came with as a headband instead. Normally, as you know, I’m not a fan of matchy-matchy looks AT ALL, but it felt right given the fact that I was going for a 70’s look.
Yes, I was trying to hide a chipped manicure. Don't judge me.
I paired it with a skirt from Forever 21 and a pair of Guess leopard pumps.

The funniest thing about this shirt is that it looks different in every single photo. I got a lot of compliments on it and about 5 people asked me if they could feel the material. That was interesting, to say the least, haha.

Added bonus: Since I wore this, I swear to you I’ve had Donna Summer and Thelma Houston in my head all weekend.

Top: Jennifer Lopez Collection for Kohl's
Pencil Skirt: Forever 21
Belt: Charlotte Ronson for JCPenney
Leopard Pumps: Guess
