Life After Labor: All About Nursing Bras!

Ok, so I know I have been quiet for a few weeks, but I promise it’s been for good reason – I had a baby boy!

It’s definitely been a whirlwind few weeks. I’m getting into the rhythm more and more each day after a long and hard labor (more on that soon!) and the arrival of the most amazing little man in our lives.

There are lots of incredible and challenging parts of motherhood – but I would definitely say one of those most wonderful and wonderfully hard parts has been breastfeeding. I knew as soon as I got pregnant that I was choosing to exclusively breastfeed, but what I didn’t know was that it would be full of its own unique challenges. Namely it’s a physical adjustment (IE it hurts in the beginning!), it takes up a lot of time (like as in you can’t even get up to eat, use the bathroom etc without planning ahead) and it can feel draining as you question everything from your milk supply levels to its quality to what you should be eating or not. And yet, the feeling of knowing you’re nourishing your baby and the bonding is absolutely amazing.

Another random change was that I could honestly say I had not previously thought about: nursing bras. But almost immediately after giving birth, I started looking for the perfect bra that would be comfortable on my body post-labor (when everything needs to be as soft as possible), adjustable as my body changed and of course, functional.

I turned to Motherhood Maternity first because they are truly the experts in all things maternity and postpartum. Once I looked at their nursing bras, I knew I had to try them out when I saw the amazing reviews from fellow moms. Literally, there were so many 5-star reviews and they were also super cute in terms of options.

I personally went with some neutral styles as well as cute styles and went to the store to learn about getting the fit just right. The sales team showed me all about picking the right size, although it was admittedly a bit easier for me as I have not changed bra sizes postpartum and I also have not dealt with being engorged (Translation: where your breasts swell with milk) because I’ve been nursing my little guy at home on demand while I’m on leave.

I’ve also been rocking a few of their nursing tees and dresses as I get back into my groove, which has been helpful to transition to wearing actual clothes again!

I'll be doing more on what I’ve learned as time goes on – so let me know if you want to hear more. For now, I recommend you try out the Motherhood Maternity nursing bra, especially since they’re running a bunch of great specials for the month of August, which is National Breastfeeding Month.
