Retro Blues

A few people have been asking me if I have any fashion "rules" that I follow and if there are things that I won't wear. The answer to that question is pretty much a resounding no, because I don't believe in setting rules for when you get dressed, with the exception of wearing something that makes you feel good.

That being said, there are things that I tend to avoid and others I gravitate toward.

One thing I rarely wear these days are bodycon dresses that hit above the knee. I love vintage reproduction dresses, like this one from Bernie Dexter Clothing, because they fit nicely but don't ride up and tend to flatter a woman's body differently than so much of the crap you find in stores these days. I'm all for being comfortable with your body and your shape, but it's ok to cover things up and wear dresses that leave something to the imagination.

I also rarely wear dark colors when I'm getting dressed up lately. Maybe it's the Caribbean in me, or maybe it's just because I wear a lot of black and brown to work. But when I get dressed, I seem to always want to wear bold prints and colors. Or, in the case of this outfit, mix both.

I didn't snap as many photos of this as I planned. But I love the retro feel of this look and the way the photos look like they could have been taken a few decades ago.

Well, I'm off for a little weekend getaway. I'll be sure to snap some photos while I'm there, but in the meantime, I wanted to wish all of you a SAFE, happy and healthy Memorial Day Weekend.

I am so thankful to those who serve in the armed forces for all that they do. How few of us (myself included) are brave and giving enough to stand up and fight for our loved ones and country, often in wars they don't even believe in. It's selfless, it's admirable and it's something I will never take for granted. SO thank you to those of you who serve, have served or have a veteran family member or a loved one in active duty. I salute all of you, and thank  you from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all, and this country, which for all of its many, many flaws, is one I love and am so proud to call my home.

Love the outfit! I agree with you on the length of skirts. I avoid above the knee myself.

Definitely agree with you on finding skirts that are the right length and fit right--I mean hey, I'm all for a shorter skirt now and then, but for practicality reasons...! I'm glad you were able to find a skirt that fits you well. That skirt is just stunning in color, and it looks lovely with the polka dots! :)

Love the polka dots with this sexy skirt!!

I too usually avoid over the knee skirts and dresses. Just makes for a cleaner look on me personally.
