Pink lace pick-me-up & time with my girls

First of all, HI! How have you all been, my dears? There's been so much going on lately with me, but I wanted to say how much I missed all of you. And how reading your comments and emails always makes me feel a little perked up, no matter how I'm feeling.

So, this outfit is a bit of a departure for me ...As a little backstory, I have to be honest with you, I've been feeling low spirits lately a bit. It's a combination of stress, a few really, supremely crappy things going on in my personal life that I won't bore you with, that nagging feeling that I haven't been taking care of myself as I should because of those things, and of course, something so many of us girls do, internalizing something someone said to you about the way you look. You know what I'm talking about, when someone says a tiny comment that they probably didn't even think twice about but it somehow stays in your head.

But when I was feeling my lowest, my girls came to the rescue, practically ripped those sweatpants off me and convinced me to come out for a much needed night on the town!

I decided the best thing to perk my spirits up was to get myself dressed in something that's admittedly a little more sexy than what I might initially reach for. I paired this lacy neon top with a basic black pencil skirt and my favorite Igigi belt.

Then, I put on some vampy makeup and even straightened my hair (although, I may or may not have spent the whole time complaining about it). Being from New Jersey, I normally live by the concept that the bigger your hair is, the closer you are to God, but I have to say I loved it.

And guess what? I had a fabulous time and forgot those troubles that seemed so insurmountable. Even for just a few hours.

The best recipe for when you're feeling down, this night taught me, is time with your friends, clothes that make you feel good about yourself and of course, a little reminder to yourself in the mirror that you don't need anyone else's permission to feel beautiful but your own.
